Cabinets and flooring have been installed and interior work is underway. Apartments are beginning to look more like homes!

Zion Woods Construction Progress Tracker

Zion Woods will create a welcoming and inclusive environment where families can thrive and individuals with a disability can live independently. This development will provide 25 apartment homes. Some homes will be for families and some for individuals living with disabilities.

Construction began after a 10-year collaborative effort that was begun by the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, who sought out development partner to ensure the land would be used to serve the community. The project is being built by HODC and Brinshore Development on the land that was donated by the church.

Set in a scenic natural environment with protected wetlands, Zion Woods is surrounded by mature trees, a river, and green space. A community garden will offer residents the opportunity to grow fresh produce and connect with neighbors, fostering a sense of community and well-being.

Zion Woods will offer independent living at affordable rents, providing stability for lower-income households in the area. Upon completion, the development will be professionally managed by HODC, ensuring long-term maintenance and support for residents.

Workforce Housing for Families

Zion Woods will be home to families who work in the area but cannot afford to live in Deerfield.

Supportive Housing for People Living with a Disability

Zion Woods will also be home to people living with a disability who will be able to live independently near their support networks. They will be proactively connected with local supportive services by HODC’s professional management team.

Celebrating 40 Years and Looking Ahead at Zion Woods

On Sunday, October 29th, 2023 HODC celebrated its 40 years with friends at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deerfield. It was a chance to share updates on what is coming for our new development, Zion Woods, and other projects in the works. We also celebrated Reverend David Kyllo’s upcoming retirement and thanked him for his years of support.
