“I hope that affordable housing will enable people like myself to spend the rest of our lives in a community that has accepted us for who we are and has accepted the fact there is going to be other adults like us who are going to stay in the communities we grew up in,”
James, Northbrook resident
For many individuals and families living with disabilities, skyrocketing housing costs are forcing them out of the very communities where they’ve built their lives and rely on essential support services. This crisis is unfolding across our region—but at HODC, we’re taking action.
We’re proud to announce that Poupard Place, our newest affordable housing development in Northbrook, has been officially approved by the Northbrook Village Board! This 48-unit community will provide safe, affordable homes for people with disabilities, ensuring they can continue living independently in a community that supports them. We expect to break ground this spring, with residents moving in by spring 2026.
This milestone was recently highlighted by the Chicago Tribune, underscoring the impact of this project. As Trustee Johannah Hebl, chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee, said: “I’m thrilled to do this. And it might be the best thing I’ve ever done up here.”
We are grateful for the leadership and community support that made this possible.
