The Highland Park Housing Commission determined that there was a need for affordable senior housing and acquired 7 single family lots along Central Avenue. The City then selected Intershore Housing Partners L.L.C.-a joint venture of HODC and Brinshore Development-in 1998 to develop the project due to their innovative solution of combining 48 condominiums with 12 rental units. Sunset Woods opened for residents in August 2002. The development is home to low- and moderate-income seniors aged 62 years and older. The three-story concrete structure with brick and limestone exterior offers common areas with a screening room for case management services. HODC manages just the rental units and provides service coordination for tenants who need support services to continue living independently.
