Brummel Apartments, located in south Evanston, is a 13-unit affordable housing development owned and operated by HODC. Originally a rundown and blighted property, HODC purchased the building in 1998 and undertook a major renovation thanks to support from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and the City of Evanston. The extensive rehabilitation included new plumbing, electrical, and heating systems, along with energy-efficient insulation, transforming the property into safe and comfortable homes for local working families.

Brummel features a mix of large one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, each with a dining room and spacious layout. The building offers four on-site garages, and residents enjoy easy access to a park directly across the street. Security cameras were later added to enhance safety and peace of mind.

In 2024, Brummel received a significant makeover through the Rebuild Illinois program, further improving the quality of life for residents. The upgrades included fresh paint, modern flooring, updated lighting, and improved common areas. These updates help ensure that Brummel remains a dignified and vibrant part of Evanston’s housing landscape for years to come.
