Many of HODC’s tenants have a steady income, but it is just not enough to provide for all of life’s necessities.
Our current residents include:
Seniors, veterans, widows, and individuals living with a disability
Working families
Individuals, couples, single parents, and dual parent families
Homeless households and those experiencing housing insecurity
How It Works
About half of our tenants are charged rent on a sliding scale based on 30% of their income. Our other tenants pay fixed amounts at below-market rents. Both of these scenarios provide our tenants with housing they can afford, in a community where they can thrive, while preserving enough of their income to cover other vital living expenses. Improved health, access to community resources, a safe and clean living environment line the pathway to better life opportunities.
Can you imagine waiting five years to finally live somewhere you can afford? How would you survive?
The average wait time to get an apartment in an affordable housing development is two to five years, but many have had to wait much longer. The waiting list for affordable housing continues to grow as rents and housing prices continue to rise.
