HODC’s Brummel apartments are looking good these days! This remarkable revitalization project was made possible by a Rebuild Illinois grant through the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s (IHDA) Capital Bill Preservation Program and championed by Governor JB Pritzker.
Brummel, a beacon of workforce housing
Brummel is a living, breathing community where families and individuals working in Evanston can thrive. Thirteen one and two-bedroom apartment homes provide a much-needed affordable haven, allowing residents to live where they work and contribute to the city’s vibrant energy.
A comprehensive facelift to ensure stability for years to come
Brummel underwent a full makeover, including:
- Fresh Facade: Strengthening the building’s exterior tuckpointing and improving its weather resistance for years to come.
- Window Replacement: Energy-efficient windows bathe apartments in natural light while keeping utility costs low for residents.
- Main Entrance Update: The updated storefront entrance improves security while creating a welcoming and contemporary space.
- Painting: Breathing new life into the building’s shared spaces and hallways, enhancing its sense of community and a cheerful atmosphere.
- Beyond the Surface: Additional repairs address various concerns, ensuring the long-term health and safety of the structure.
The power of collaboration: Building brighter futures together
The Capital Bill Preservation Program plays a pivotal role in supporting affordable housing gems like Brummel. This supplemental funding allows us to tackle critical repairs and upgrades while keeping rents affordable for our residents. It’s an investment in low- and very-low-income residents, ensuring they have access to safe, decent, and affordable housing in the communities in which they work.
The new improvements create a more welcoming and dignified environment, contributing to the overall well-being and quality of life for everyone who calls Brummel home.
