On Saturday, July 12, HODC hosted the 2025 Zion Woods HomeComing, an event for neighbors and local organizations to welcome the residents of Zion Woods to their new homes. It was a block party with heart, a homecoming in every sense of the word.
Residents were greeted with music, warm smiles, and community partners who care deeply about this neighborhood and its people. Representatives from local organizations shared resources and information, from health care and banking to education and community services. During the event, residents were able to register to vote, sign up for a library card, open up a banking account, learn about options for health care, sign up for a caption phone, and more.
One resident shared, “So many people came together to make us feel welcome. It made me feel like I am not alone. That kind of kindness stays with you.”
That’s the power of affordable housing done right.
We are especially grateful to the HODC Board of Directors, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Religious Leaders United for their hard work in planning this event. Special thanks to HODC Board Secretary Sarah Homan, who led the effort and was joined by fellow board members in warmly welcoming residents and lending a hand throughout the event.
As HODC continues to create and sustain affordable housing throughout the region, Zion Woods stands as a model for what is possible when the community comes together.
Welcome home, Zion Woods. We’re so glad you’re here.
