HODC is pleased to announce the purchase of two affordable single-family homes, one in Wauconda and another in Prairie View. This crucial acquisition ensures these homes remain accessible to low- and very-low-income families, preserving vital housing options in our community.
These homes were previously owned by the Lake County Housing Authority (LCHA), who prioritized affordability even during their sale. Thanks to Lake County Community Development’s generous funding and a grant from a local nonprofit, HODC was able to acquire these homes, keeping them permanently affordable for families in need.
Why is this important?
Affordable housing is a critical issue in our community, and these two homes represent a significant victory in the fight against its decline. Losing them would only exacerbate the shortage, pushing more families into housing insecurity. By preserving these homes, HODC ensures:
- Stability for families: These homes offer safe, secure housing for low- and very-low-income families, allowing them to stay in the communities where they work, raise their families, focus on their well-being and future goals.
- Community investment: Affordable housing strengthens the community by enabling residents to contribute to the local economy and participate in community life.
- Prevention of displacement: Preserving existing affordable housing prevents families from being displaced, uprooting their lives and disrupting their children’s education.
