HODC’s mission is to develop, manage, and preserve the stock of housing that is affordable to low and moderate income households primarily throughout Chicago’s northern suburbs.
HODC’s vision is that everyone has access to a home they can afford in a community of their choice.
Founded by local community leaders who were inspired by Martin Luther King Jr’s impact on fair housing, HODC works primarily in Chicago’s northern suburbs where affordable housing options remain scarce.
HODC is a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) as well as a HUD approved housing counseling agency that serves in north suburban Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties.
To date, HODC has completed 31 affordable housing projects with over 560 units and manages 409 affordable apartments with more developments in the pipeline.
HODC works to provide safe and affordable housing in areas where affordable housing options remain scarce. We strive to achieve our mission through four primary programs.
The standard in the United States is to spend 30% or less on housing costs but many people are spending more than 50% of their income on housing. Many of our tenants have a steady income but it is just not enough to pay for 50% or more for housing AND provide for all of life’s necessities, such as food, medicine, and transportation.
