The Northbrook Village Board unanimously voted this week to approve a project by Quarterra Multifamily Communities to develop a luxury apartment building, restaurant and other retail spaces on Shermer Road. The meeting and vote was covered by The Daily Herald and The Northbrook Star. Quarterra will donate a parcel of this property to HODC for a 48-unit affordable and supportive housing development.

This new HODC project will be for families and people living with disabilities. The apartments will include a mix of 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms with rents averaging $700 – $1,100. Construction is projected to begin in mid-2024 with potential occupancy no sooner than mid-2025. Applications for occupancy are not yet being received but a high volume of interest is expected. HODC will announce the opening of the wait list which will likely be some time in 2025.

This proximity of this total project to Northbrook’s downtown and the mix of housing for people of varying incomes will strengthen the community and revitalize area retail. HODC’s Executive Director, Richard Koenig, said “The 48 homes in this project will make it possible for those who live there be a part of a healthy community with jobs, a strong education system, and stable community.”
